Sustainability Sunglasses
Designed and prototyped for a sustainability project in the course How to Make Things, one of the Integrated Product Design classes.
-
Original sunglasses designed in Rhino, based on the current guidelines for sunglass frames
-
Created a 3D-printed mold as a guide for the silicone that would be cast to create the sunglasses
-
Using the silicone mold, cast Smooth Cast 305, a type of acrylic
-
For the sustainability portion, utilized chopped-up pieces of broken umbrellas inside of the sunglasses
-
This made it sustainable as it found a new use for the umbrellas, and also reduced the amount of casting material that needed to be used
-
Hinges were pre-made and were incorporated into the design as a finishing component
